No-exam life insurance

Eligibility rules for immediate underwriting, how the process works, and what the alternative path looks like.

An increasing number of insurers now provide expedited underwriting: for candidates in a certain age and coverage range, the company decides based on your application, pharmacy records, driving history and related information rather than an in-person health exam. Approval can be immediate. Each quote on this website indicates whether an exam requirement exists or might be waived.

What it changes

Fast decisions don't skip verification. The carrier confirms your responses, and policies issued with wrong information can be challenged in the first two years. If the carrier's search finds issues, they may order tests; you choose how to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Your age below about 60, the amount below the carrier's accelerated threshold, a clean health background, and no tobacco use in the past year. Some carriers will substitute recent bloodwork from your doctor's office for a full exam.

An exam usually means a 20 to 30-minute health check by a trained examiner at your house or workplace in the Pasadena region, at no charge. For applicants in good health, a strong exam result can lower your rate tier, so it can work in your favor.
